That’s right, it’s time for my 2012 prediction #5.
Here we go…
THE YEAR OF NANO
“Nano Continuity” is a term I coined last year. And it is for continuity programs that charge $5 per month and less. I had seen the trend happening for a while – and it’s going to pick up a lot of steam in 2012.
Why?
First, a big issue is that people’s credit cards are getting maxed out as banks are lowering the limits. And while $97 might be a stretch – they will always find room for just $5 more.
And since the economy went in the toilet, consumers are looking over what they spend money on VERY closely.
This is where Nano programs will step in.
It’s such an easy sale and you don’t need heavy persuasion to get someone to try it.
Every day I get emails from entrepreneurs launching their own Nano Continuity programs. EVERY DAY – and it’s only going to pick up steam this year.
Heck, even big names like Glenn Beck put his TV show online and charges $4.95 for people to watch it (he reportedly has 200,000 subscribers!). Like him or now – $1 million per month is pretty damn impressive.
LOW BARRIER TO ENTRY
The other reason is will gain more momentum this year is because Nano Continuity programs are so easy to create. All you need is a way to accept credit cards and an email system (like aweber) and you are set.
I’ve also been speaking with Beau at Clickbank and having them lower their minimums to allow for $5/month billing (right now, the minimum you can charge is $7.99 per month). They are working on it! And once Clickbank opens the doors – the floodgates will open.
Because it’s so easy to start one, you’ll see more and more entrepreneurs offering their own “Nano” programs in 2012.
GET IN EARLY
But I have to warn you.. you are going to want to get in on the trend early.
The $5 per month is easy for people to swallow – but once they have 5 or 10 different programs, it will begin to add up. Then, they look to eliminate programs.
So you want to get in early AND make sure you are still providing lots of value to KEEP them.
Nano Continuity will heat up this year. But remember, for most people, it will be just a piece of the puzzle. You need a lot of members to turn it into a 7-figure business.
So get out there and think about how you can turn your passion and content into a Nano Continuity program in 2012…

P.S. If you want help starting your own Nano Continuity program in 2012 – here’s your blueprint.

Hi Ryan,
Awesome post! I thank you for your wise and consistent advice. Having a blast with both the IC and Ryan lee Method!
Regards,
Cory
Thanks Cory,
I appreciate you loyalty and looking forward to seeing you have a killer 2012…
Ryan
Great prediction. I agree. I have tens of thousands of free subscribers who have been with me for a long time and I have decided to start a premium $5 newsletter for them in January. I’m curious, in a non-IM market, what type of conversion to nano offer to you consider good, and what is an average membership lifetime in terms of months? I would have to think they would be staying fairly long if the content is good because it’s just $5. That’s the beauty of nano.
I am enjoying these predictions. Thank you.
Hey Mike,
I’m looking forward to seeing your results.
The average length for a “typical” membership site is around 3.5 months.
For Nano, there’s not enough data yet for – but from what I’ve seen so far, it’s around 11 months.
Ryan
Ryan – I’m not sure Nano Continuity will be a big part of 2012 or not (lots on my list are higher priorities), but lets assume for a minute that it is.
People have to realize that even for $4.99/month, our members want good content. They want access to US… to our minds, our predictions, our ways of making their lives better and simpler.
They don’t want reviews of 100 products with no recommendation: they want the work done for them. They don’t want to know the myriad of steps you and I take every day to keep our businesses flowing… they want the FIVE things they can do this week to be more successful. They don’t want 50 blog posts to read, they want one that is targeted directly to their needs.
So – even though the barrier to getting someone to buy is lower, we all know that great, targeted content is still the key. (Your topic wasn’t on this, I know, but wanted to be sure to point it out.)
And as the holidays are upon us, Ryan, I wish you the best for the rest of 2011 and even more success in 2012. (Our calendar is still filled with much to accomplish before the end of the year, but we sure want to take time to be with our families over the holidays, too.)
Best to you, Ryan. And thanks for a great “predictions” series.

Hey Charlie,
Yes, people still want good content, even for just $5.
BUT – it usually does not have to include “access” to you. That’s why I recommend setting up different memberships and products too.
Have a great holiday!
Ryan
I agree with your point about access. I was referring to their wanting to get close to our thinking and ideas. Access to our minds, our thoughts, our actions.
To get access to us, REAL access to us, there is a MUCH higher cost. It’s why we always have a good, better, best – access to us is at the higher-priced Best level.
And back at ya for the holidays!

A great premise. I am doing something quite similar with a newbie video message i send to a closed group witin a company I metored several years ago and have reconnectd with the new owners to help get the marketing guys back connected with prior customers
Great post
Thanks Bill – and good luck with your programs this year!
Best
Ryan
Hey Ryan
You know me, I love to agree as much as I love to disagree :o)
I get the whole reason why cheaper monthly programs would be attractive, but I do find it is just as easy (or hard) to market a high priced program compared to a low priced program… and with the high priced program I find I get a better quality of client (less moaners, less refunds etc etc…)
How have you found it with both your higher priced and nano communities in relation to customer service/loyalty?
As always love your discussions and predictions.
Tim
Hey Tim,
I love a good discussion.
Yes, in general, you’ll get a different type of person in the higher priced program. BUT, it’s still a good way for people to try out your programs – and then you give them reasons to purchase more.
I also find it easier to market the lower priced Nano programs – especially as an upsell.
And those $5 per month do add up pretty quickly.
Ryan
Does that mean you are going to lower the price of IC ;) nah, just kidding, it is already really good value.
Merry Christmas to all who read this blog, and thanks for the freebies for us IC members too :)
Nice on Quentin.
Although, I am looking at creating a few new Nano programs hitting other aspects of marketing in 2012.
And thanks for being a member of the IC. I’m glad you are finding so much value.

Ryan
I love the idea and wonder how it will take off. When you only have the client for a shorter period of time are you short changing yourself? I fully think that if you are offering a quality product and deliver great stuff people will pay for it. Look at Ben and Jerry ice cream. quality and I think they get a fair price for the effort. The only way I see it working is to upsell to a greater product.
By the way may you and yours enjoy this Holiday season to the max and as always looking forward to the future posts and the great comments from the rest. I feel I always come away with some info to use.
P.S. Any new books coming from you!
Hey Paul,
Like I said, it should be just ONE component of a bigger strategy. You should still create more products and programs.
And yes, I’m working on a new book for 2012 :)
Keep on rockin’
Ryan
Being in a field where individuals must maintain continuing education units, nano continuity programs is an excellent way to serve the industry.
Having purchased Ryan’s program I will say the possibilities are endless.
I suppose it is a personal choice as to the business model you choose.
Ryan, to you and your family Happy Channakuh, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Cheers!
Mike
Hey Mike,
Thanks for your feedback.
It really is a personal choice. And while a Nano might not work for every niche – it’s about as close as you can get.
Happy Holidays to you and your family too!
Ryan
Thanks for the reminder that I actually have your course Nano Continuity Ryan. I picked it up a while back while I was busy taking action on something else, knowing I would be able to use it when I needed it. Now is the time for sure.
I have an idea up and the site started with many of the files ready to go in my cPanel etc. and will be adding the first couple weeks of content soon to launch for the new year.
Dave Gardner
Hey Dave,
First, thanks for investing in my program :)
And second, I wish you much success with your new site. Keep us all posted on your progress…
Ryan
I believe the “mini membership” site idea can work. For one because it already has worked. The key is managing expectations, you need to be up front of what it is and what it’s not. I’ve seen it not work for some because of being unclear up front of what it is and what it’s not and recurring billings. (even at low price points)
Carve out an in demand niche within your own influence and start there. It could be an entry level version of your larger site. You can always offer to move the client up to your main site and or offer more in depth programs along the way.
Think outside the box.
Merry Christmas everyone!
Hey Brett,
Great point!
You MUST manage the expectations from the beginning.
They cannot think it’s a private coaching program for $5 – and then you just give them email tips. That will lead to pissed off customers, and they will tell everyone they know to stay away.

Hey Ryan, funny, but right now I am just updated one of my products’ newsletter. I was mostly promoting affiliate programs, but now I sell my nano continuity.
I already have some members, and what Charlie said is the truth. Even it’s less than $10, people want a LOT.
It’s super easy to sell though. In fact, nano is also a powerful way of getting juicy affiliate commissions because during your program, you recommend tools to subscribers. The tools that will help them to get where they want.
Now, getting members is pretty easy, you don’t even need a sales letter. I enrolled people in my nano programs with emails and a link to my paypal.
Franck
Hey Franck,
Again, be sure to let them know exactly what they are getting.
Give unannounced gifts, but be very clear on what the program is (and is NOT).
Congrats on getting new members – that’s great.
Now keep on delivering great stuff, keep them happy and turn them into raving fans. That, my friend, is how you build a REAL business that keeps on growing.
Ryan
WOW!!!!! AMAZING!!! I just switched some things and made some new offers on my monthly news letter and got an immediate sale already. I had an idea and now that I read this post will definitely start offering it. Our CDs that are free with our newsletter will be offered for $4.95 individually with no news letter and no monthly commitment. This is why I love reading this blog. It gives me ideas that can be implemented immediately. Thanks Ryan. So yes, this prediction is for sure a winner as well and becoming true!
Hey Edwin,
That’s great you are finding so much value from this site.
Keep on taking ACTION!!
Ryan
Hi Ryan great article, I love this sort of stuff, I have often thought this may be a good way ahead as I take great care to see what others are doing around the web as I read blogs and sign up to email list etc, and plenty of people that I see as being influential are doing these sort of programs, they must of been talking to you, people need numbers for them to be a success but the numbers are easier to come by when the price is low, it all makes sense now, keep up the good work.
Karl
Thanks for your continued support Karl.
And I’m glad this is giving you ideas for your business.
Keep on rockin’
Ryan
So my question is what do we think is driving nano? less expensive is not new — at least that what my econ prof told me about the demand curve. I am thinking that nano is becoming hotter today because folks are going into the ITunes app world. Is this distrubtive technology that challenges the established online content model — or is it creating a whole (and possibly much larger) market?
Hey Rob,
There are a lot of forces…
I think it definitely has a lot to do with the economy. But also the iTunes and Kindle models of $5-$10 for GOOD content is changing the marketplace.
It’s more like an impulse buy (buying a magazine at the supermarket checkout) and now technology has made it easy to reproduce online.
This will be a fun year to see how it shakes up..
Ryan
awesome work as always Ryan! Happy Hanukkah to you and your family!
Thank you Travis.
And I wish you and your family a Happy Holiday season!!!
Ryan
Ryan,
Great predictions, all of them! I know you mentioned under $5; however, would you consider the $9 price point to still fall in the low price category as far as 2012 growth?
Hey Scott,
Yes, I do think even $9 will continue to grow in popularity.
But for true “Nano” the $5 and under is what gets people to stick for a long time.
Ryan
Great post,
5 is easy so pay…
Absolutely :)
Ryan
I 100% agree with you. I believe strongly in results in advance. I give people as much solid info up front and when they pay I want to blow it out of the water for them.
Even for $5 I want to give extremely high valued content so they go even higher $40-100.
Thanks for the post Ryan!
Yes Shaun.
You are right – you still need to give GREAT value, even at $5.
Keep on rockin’
Ryan
Love it, and I know this works
I was a member of OneTrueMedia (Video Site) and they charged $4 monthly to use them, and I only used them for 1 month (found something better and free), but cancelled 3 months after, because I felt $4 was whatever
So I know $5 is not stressful to pay, and opens up more opportunity for people to see what you have to offer, and if you over deliver then they’ll move up with your other programs!
Will for sure implement this, I already got a couple of ideas running :)
2012 is gonna kick ass!
Luis Carrillo
Hey Luis,
I’m STILL on programs I pay $5 per month for.. and keep it because it’s not even worth cancelling :)
Looking forward to seeing what you have cooking in 2012..
Ryan
Hey Ryan…
Great stuff! I see you saved the best for last! (Is this the last prediction?)
I’ve been following this years predictions with earnest! Using them as a guideline and gauging if I’m heading in the right direction. So far I have 3 out of 5 right so I feel pretty confident about the coming year! Although #1 doesn’t really apply to myself so much as I have always tried really hard to cut out all the bull! Keep it real!
Wishing you and your family a wonderful holiday season!
Ted Peterson
http://bit.ly/v6vyGU
Hey Ted,
I might put up another prediction :)
It’s cool to hear you’ve been following my predictions.. I love spotting the trends – and then jumping all over them.
Have a great holiday and can’t wait to see what you have cooking in 2012.
Ryan
Hi Ryan,
Great stuff as usual.
Thanks,
Don
Thank you Don!
Ryan
Ryan,
What is an appropriate amount of information to deliver each month in nano continuity?
Hey James,
It really depends on what type of content you are delivering.
For videos, it can be a 3-5 minute weekly video or maybe one 20-30 minute video.
Whatever the volume, just make sure it’s enough to keep them happy – but not too much that it overwhelms them.
Ryan
Ryan , thanks for sharing your thoughts to Beau…It would be super if they lowered the barrier to enter……I talked to him at your CS3 and also at the ClickBank conference in NYC…Good guy…
I would like your IC Members to read this story……
Last summer while i was in LA i asked my cousin if he wanted to see a Dodgers game….He said that he did not want to spend the money….I old him that i would buy the tickets….I went on Stub Hub and bought the nose bleed seats for .45 cents each…The total with fees was less than a big mack meal….
The tickets would have gone unsold but the Dodgers were smart……Parking was 15 bucks and if we were hungry we could have spent 30 buck each on Dodgers dogs, etc….
The Dodgers used a so called nano mind set to get their clients to buy – buy – buy…..
Thanks for making a difference….Larry
Although it hasn’t gotten much in the way of a well thought out plan/process yet; one of my goals for 2012 is to begin to offer a continuity product to my list and followers. I really like the idea of Nano Continuity and have read previous posts you have written about less expensive continuity programs. This is definitely the way I think I’ll be going within the next few months. How will we hear if Clickbank lowers their minimum to $5/month? Email through them and/or and email through you to your list? Thanks Ryan, have a great New Year.
