Reverse Engineer 6-Figures a Year Online

Yesterday, I wrote about creating deadlines by getting it down on a calendar.

So today, I’d like to explore the idea of reverse engineering your business.

Now, a word of caution – this might not work for everybody. Once you figure out the numbers, don’t ever forget about providing life-shattering value for your clients. After all, they ARE your business.

WORK BACKWARDS

With the thousands of coaching calls I’ve done over the years – whenever I ask what their financial goal is, the majority say “$10,000 per month”.

And, when I first got started, that was my goal too.

Believe it or not, I was never (and never will be) purely driven by money. I was happy making $26K working in the children’s hospital and I’m still happy now when I make that in a day.

But even $10,000 might seem like a huge hill to climb – so I like to break it down to smaller, easier to visualize numbers.

Ok, so if your goal is $10K per month, let’s break that down more…

WEEKLY: That comes $2,500 per week
DAILY: That’s approximately $333 per day

Now, when you break it down to just $333 a day, it starts to feel more real.

So it’s time to come up with a plan to hit those numbers.

THE PLAN

When you have your daily goal, amazingly your brain starts to formulate the plan to get there. And it happens almost instantly!

Here are a few ideas to get your creativity flowing…

  • Membership sites/Continuity programs
Approximately 3 members per day at $100/month
    Or 10 members per day @ $30/month
Or 100 members per day at $10/month

**Remember, once you hit the numbers for a continuity program and KEEP them, the next month the number of new members you need plummets to virtually zero.

  • Lower priced products/ebooks
13 sales per day at $30
  • Premium product
    1 sale every 3 days at $1,000

When you look at the numbers above, you can see it’s certainly not impossible to hit those goals.

Look, the list above is not meant to be all-inclusive, but it gives you an idea of what it takes to hit your numbers. And obviously, if you are paying for traffic and have a strong “backend”, those numbers will change.

But, when you follow my “method”, and do things to right way – those numbers become pretty easy to hit.

The point is when you break down your goals to smaller, easy to attain goals that FEEL REAL – you put the plan into action.

And that, my friend, is when the good shit happens!

Nice, As mentioned, it actually feels very attainable when broken down like that, and makes think about the plans you can put into place in order to achieve this.

    Thanks a lot Ryan.

      Thanks Darren,

Yes – when you break it down it becomes easier to visualize AND achieve!

    Ryan,
It always looks “easier” when it is broken down into either weekly, daily or even hourly; however what are the number people you have to put your product / sales page etc. in front of and how many times do they have to see it before they purchase?

I think this depends on your credibility in that particular niche.

    Warmest Regards
    Mike

    • Ryan Lee January 31, 2012 at 8:19 pm #

      Hey Mike,

You are talking about “conversion” and it depends on many factors.

Your message, headline, social proof, product, value, design, etc…

But yes, when you build credibility and people know, like and trust you – your conversions skyrocket!

Ryan, The thing I appreciate about your posts is that you are always talking about the practical details that help us take the next step forward or get us from behind a physical or mental stumbling block that has slowed us down.

This is a very helpful post because it puts things in perspective for where I am right now.

    Thanks as always,

    • Ryan Lee January 31, 2012 at 8:21 pm #

      Hey James,

Thanks – I try really hard to make you think, but to also give you things to take away (and put into action).

There was a session in Continuity 3 where you speaker went through his frustrations and outlined his solution to achieving these types of numbers. i.e. its one thing to create a membership site but to then get 3 people per day….and not just have a pretty *but empty*…membership site is where the rubber hits the road. That was a great session in Continuity 3 – so if folks haven’t watched it yet…highly recommend it! Can’t remember the chaps name….do you Ryan?

    • Ryan Lee January 31, 2012 at 8:27 pm #

      Hey Andrew,

That sounds like a lot of the sessions :)

Not sure if you are talking about Chris Farrell, Stu McLaren or Tim Schmidt.

      Ryan

      • andrew@andrewive.com February 1, 2012 at 12:25 am #

Hey Ryan – Just went and found the relevant session in Continuity 3 – it was Jeff Anderson with 15 Minutes for a Seven Figure Income Module 5. That session was fantastic….well, they ALL are fantastic but Jeff focused in on tangible 15 minute steps to get those 3 new customers into your membership site every day.

If anyone wants it broken down in a really specific way – go inside the Inner Circle area, go along to Continuity 3 and check out Jeff’s session. There’s ‘gold’ inside… Only wish I could add an affiliate link :)

        Thanks for killer content Ryan.

Love it Ryan, and the feeling you get when you hit those targets is something else!

I set monthly targets for my business, and I increase them every month. This month was £15k for one of our income streams, and today being the last day, we were on £14,556.81

So what did we do? We all jumped on the phone during the last couple of hours and pushed it to £15,055.

Job done, and done only because we set a target.

    • Ryan Lee January 31, 2012 at 8:28 pm #

      Hey Quentin,

Nothing feels better than hitting those targets – and when you are focused on it, it WILL become a reality!

Thanks for your ongoing contributions here…

Yes, Every one should need to set a target first in small then slowly bigger. Now I started with small one.

    • Ryan Lee January 31, 2012 at 8:31 pm #

The key is at least having some type of goal Mrinal.

It can be big or small, but have something to reach for!

      Keep rockin’

  12. Rona January 31, 2012 at 7:55 pm #

Thanks for breaking it down. Despite being good at math, the figures can be daunting. I’m learning…manageable pieces. Good. Good. Greatness! Thanks!

    • Ryan Lee January 31, 2012 at 8:32 pm #

      Hey Rona,

They can be daunting, but when you break it down to daily goals – it’s easy to wrap your head around it.

      Ryan

  13. Fredrik January 31, 2012 at 8:32 pm #

This is trivial math. The real problem in this economy is a) have enough value so people feel obliged to buy, b) get enough interested people into the sales funnel.

We can safely ignore all get-rich-quick scams on Clickbank.

Producing quality content for a membership site is a never-ending story, i.e. a job.

So why not share how you solve these problems for free, I think a lot would be interested.

    • Ryan Lee January 31, 2012 at 9:08 pm #

      Fredrik,

The math is definitely not “trivial”.

Everything I talk about on this site is about building value and getting people into your funnel. I share it everyday for free.

And I also disagree with your ideas about a membership site. You can also have different models (like a producer, a host or even software) where it’s not always new content. And when you love the topic – it never feels like work.

Hey Fredric, just in case your not aware.. Ryan is already doing this in his 1kperday presentation open to the public. You may consider registering for the class tonight at 9pm if your interested in learning more about sales funnels and anything else you have questions about.

In the last 5 months taking part in Ryan’s coaching, he has over delivered 100 times what I was expecting!

Hope this helps give you a direction Fredrik,

      Travis

It all comes down to very basic math and breaking it down little by little to formulate a projected outcome and a game plan for it to happen. I’m, acting on your Advice and forming a mastermind group a with a friend that is also in your Inner circle group, along with getting a product squared away, developing a interview revenue stream. The possibilities are ENDLESS.

    • Ryan Lee January 31, 2012 at 9:09 pm #

      Awesome Travis.

It’s great to see you taking action and forming your own mastermind group.

      Keep on moving ahead…

Ryan, it’s always motivating to see the numbers when one is breaking down the whole process. The goal looks more realistic that way. And we all know that a positive belief in what you do is essential for succeeding.

The webinar you hosted last week was extremely motivating, and a reason for that was because you also broke down the process and made me believe that anything IS possible. I’ve been really fired up the whole week because of what you saks there.

Hope you’ll have a good time in california next week.

      Hey Fred,

Thanks for your feedback and I’m glad you enjoyed the webinar.

I really enjoy breaking it down to make the goals seem easy. Then, just take action and make it happen!

very true seeing smaller makes everything just so much easier to attain and makes you formulate a plan instead of of just wishing you could make 10K

    awesome post!

  18. Cristian February 1, 2012 at 2:47 am #

    Hey Ryan,

Thanks for the break down. It really looks easier to achieve. And when you add multiple streams of income, the numbers grow really nice toward your goal.

Oh, and btw, it would only take 30 members a day at $10/month. Not 100. ;-)

    Hey Ryan,

Just watched you 1k/day webinar. A couple months ago you were touting the benifits of nano-continuity and said making small amount of money from people is the key….. Now it seems you are saying that the “little money” is the wrong path and we should sell the big ticket system. What gives? Do trends change that fast or are their merits to both?

    • Ryan Lee February 2, 2012 at 2:42 am #

      Hey Rick,

I’m big believer in having multiple products in different price categories.

It’s not a one or nothing.

      Nano continuity products
      Premium programs
      Mid-priced products

They all work in different markets. The focus of my new coaching program is entirely on the higher end of the spectrum, the premium products.

What would be the difference in joining the IC group or joining the 1K program which starts tomorrow? I guess what I am wondering is: is the 1K information already a part of the IC membership site, which I was actually considering joining anyway. Thanks for the great webinar yesterday, Ryan.

  23. David H. February 2, 2012 at 6:01 am #

I’m very glad you started it off with “Now, a word of caution – this might not work for everybody. Once you figure out the numbers, don’t ever forget about providing life-shattering value for your clients. After all, they ARE your business.”

In creating my first product, I’m setting deadlines, but as I run into challenges in being able to provide the most value for my clients, I simply can’t work to a deadline just to get the product out the door. It has to be STELLAR in my mind, because if I’m not truly helping people, why the hell should I be paid well. That’s how I see it.

This kind of advice is what sets you apart from all the other Internet marketing wackos out there. I mean those that are “bad wacko”…you’re “good wacko!” ;)

  24. David H. February 2, 2012 at 9:26 pm #

Just to save my ass…since I’m new to the community…perhaps my little, sarcastic joke at the end didn’t come across so well. :( I did live in NYC for 10 years and my mouth gets big sometimes.

  25. Richard February 4, 2012 at 4:16 am #

I guessed I asked my question too late! Willing to spend $47.00 per month in the membership area, which I am MORE than willing to do. HOWEVER, I wondered if this same type of information and training was actually IN the membership site which would make spending this $$$ on this “coaching” double spending?

Waiting for the answer during his starbucks coffee. Take care, Ryan.

  26. Carmen Greene February 12, 2012 at 4:29 am #

    Hi Ryan!

I do agree with you, breaking down that plan and it is really not impossible. Smaller goals looks more feasible and true, more possibility to reach that also.

    Carmen
