Just a few years ago, Rick Ankiel was a starting pitcher in the playoffs who had a 97 mile per hour fastball. However during that series, he threw nine wild pitches in just four innings.

That was the beginning of a long spiral the took him to the minor leagues and looked like the end of his career.

But he never gave up! Even when things looked bleak.

Power Hitter

If you know anything about baseball, it’s a game of precision skill. Pitchers pitch and batters hit. That’s it.

But Rick Ankiel re-invented himself. He got back to hitting and just last week he was called up to the Major Leagues as a power hitting outfielder.

In his first game back, he got a standing ovation. And during that game, in his 4th at-bat, he slugged a 3-run home run!

Oh yeah…

And 2 days later he slammed another 2 home runs!

Not bad for a “washed up” pitcher.
