By the time you finish reading this post – your business may already be obsolete.
Ok, I might be exaggerating a little bit.. but not much.
The web moves so fast. And I’m not just talking about technology, I’m talking about the marketing and the sales process too.
CONVERSIONS AND TRAFFIC
What worked great just a few months, weeks or even days aago might not be working today. You think I’m kidding?
Overnight a major marketing tactic used by thousands of entrepreneurs for almost a decade was basically eliminated. That’s right. Google decided to make some changes to their algorithm and by the time we woke up the next morning, large “content aggregators” like ezinearticles and squidoo were virtually eliminated from Google.
Poof! Just like that.
So if you’re entire marketing strategy was to rely on just one of those tactics – you are in trouble. And not just trouble, I’m talking big ass trouble.
Just think about how quickly things changed with a sales web site.
First, it was just long copy (this was back in 1999)
Then, it was long sales copy with audio.
Followed by long sales copy with video.
Soon came video sales letters.
And now it’s webinars.
But if you didn’t change. If you stuck your head in the sand and didn’t adapt, your long sales copy with no video would probably see a big drop in conversions. And a drop in conversions means less money in your pocket. And that kinda sucks, doesn’t it?
So what do you do?
Spend time everyday studying what’s working now. Carve out 30 minutes or so to just “surf” sites in your marketplace. Go to the Clickbank marketplace and look at the Top 10 sites in each category. See what big players like Amazon and Zappos are going on their checkout pages.
Go to events (not pitchfests, but events with actual content!).
Mastermind with other like-minded entrepreneurs.
But BE CAREFUL.
Don’t fall into the trap of spending the entire day just “learning” and not enough time “doing”.
Again, limit it to maybe 20-30 minutes. Take notes. Heck, you can even do this while you are watching The Kardashians.
Then, get off your ass and IMPLEMENT. The ONLY way to know if it works is to try it yourself.
If you see a cool looking “add to cart” button, try it.
You see a new upsell idea – give it a shot.
But never, ever rest on your laurels.
The minute… no, make that the SECOND you THINK you know it all – you’re in deep shit.
